A collab between ~fuego316 and I for the ~inner-space devpac DUAL. I did the background with Photoshop 07 and he made the spaceships in cinema 4d.
Story:
Two tankers cruse up to the outskirts of a nearby asteroid belt to harvest the rare metals they contain. The yield is brought back to the ringed planet: Milchamah-Quatsyr for refining at an industrial colony. Once they have the raw materials they are utilized in the construction of military warships.
Milchamah-Quatsyr’s natural volcanic activity is perfectly suited for the manipulation and production of raw materials into their much-needed arsenal of war machines. They carved out the planets surface damming lava flows and creating massive molten lakes using the planets natural energies for the operation. It was a massive undertaking to say the least, and very dangerous. The planet’s atmosphere is filled with deadly toxins, and the volatile surface is prone to large earthquakes and eruptions. Many have sacrificed their lives, and undoubtedly many more will. But for the most part the planet is filled with slave laborers, of which the majority are prisoners of war. These are the expendable and work in the most dangerous places on the planet. Any way you look at it though these unfortunates will be worked to death, and many even pray for a quick end.
A thick cloudy nebula provides some shielding from enemies, as it is impossible to navigate through because of its heavy radiation, and it’s too large to transverse. But the colonies existence is testament to the technologies used to reach the planet. No one had bothered trying to develop technology to penetrate the nebula other than one explorer who died along with his crew trying. When raw materials were becoming scarce and the log of the explorer’s ship, which was found floating out of the nebula 3 1/2 years after it entered, told of large quantities of rare metals on the other side of the nebula every effort was made to get it done. This time it would not be a one-way trip, and they succeeded.
